Each barbecue sauce recipes seem to contain very similar ingredients in similar proportions until you decide if you want it sweeter or hotter. Only you can decide that for yourself.

The benefits of making it yourself is that you can avoid store sauces that are to high in sugars and carbohydrates especially if you have diabetes or are someone who is trying to lose weight.

When I check some of the store sold barbecue-sauce I am amazed to see how much sugar is in two table spoons-greater then 20gm of carbohydrate! Now that is not good for anyone especially a diabetic. here is a low-carb-bbq-sauce recipe

Well we can make our own homemade barbecue sauce ourselves without the high sugar content and artificial ingredients which will be fresh stay good in the refrigerator for several days And give you complements at the table.

BBQ-sauces come in several varieties Thru out the USA based on the region of the country.

These sauces tend to be sweet in the south and get more spicier as the Barbecue sauces head to Texas and the wild southwest. There they are less sweet but have more kick from chili peppers.

Ingredients for Quick Barbecue-Sauces The main ingredient I use in barbecue-sauces.

Ingredients

  • Tomato sauce
  • 3 cups of tomato sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons of chili powder
  • 1 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons of brown sugar
  • one tablespoon of black molasses (put this in at the end after you turn of the heat)
  • 1 teaspoon of spanish paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup of chopped up sweet onions I like vidalia-in little pieces
  • 1/4 teaspoon of chinese 5 spice

Cooking the BBQ sauce

Mix all the above ingredients in a medium size pan and cook on low to medium heat for 15 minutes-occasionally stirring the mixture. Watch that it does not get to thick or it can burn. You will have to sample the sauce yourself with a spoon and adjust salt and pepper as desired.

After it cools put it in the refrigerator and it should be good for a few days-no preservatives and its better then the brand in the grocery because you made it yourself without high fructose corn syrup.

You can store the barbecue-sauce in a glass mason jar. What I do is I wash out my glass spaghetti sauce jars and dry them out then store my homemade-barbecue-sauce in them.

How to Make Homemade BBQ Sauce Without Catsup

To make bbq sauce without catsup. You can really do it and I’ll show you how. Break the catsup addiction because catsup is not good for you.

Catsup is a really bland concoction that has no zing or bite to it. I think catsup was made for ease but when you get down to it your better of dipping the meat in plain mustard.

When i was a kid I got my first taste of homemade-barbecue-sauce in upstate NY when I was send to day camp. I never wanted to have catsup again on my hot dogs or hamburgers but the camp counselor said no bbq-sauces for you.

So I revolted by doing the haunted house carnival in my day camp carnival. I was supposed to smear blood (catsup) on the blind folded guests who came thru the haunted house. I was so upset about not getting any homemade-barbecue-sauce that I poured the entire bottle of catsup on some busybody ‘s head and then I walked out of that day camp for ever.

I dreamed of having tangy spicy hot barbecue sauce someday but living in the cold Wasteland that was New York at that time-it was not to be.

Growing up without bbq-sauces and Catsup Abuse

We in the cold reaches of the northeast were subjected to catsup abuse around the clock for lunch and dinner. On our fries and burgers . Then on visiting the south I received enlightenment into barbecue sauce. Finally I learned of the tomato and mustard based sauces.

I was driving down in the Carolina for vacation specifically in South Carolina when I ran into some BBQ joints and asked for some sauce and was given a yellow connection.

they told me that they make bbq sauce without tomatoes Where is the tomato I asked and the Pitt-master looked at me in shock. We don’t use tomatoes in this neck of the woods.

Well the sauce was excellent. I was afraid they were going to run me out of town for speaking about tomatoes.

Making Tomato Based Homemade BBQ Sauce

Make-barbecue-sauce with natural ingredients if available okay no one wants to puree fresh tomatoes so I’ll let you get away with some cans of tomato sauce.

If you want some kick go ahead and add chili powder even hotter get chiles and grind them yourself but that would be too much work so lets go with chili powder.

Now we are going to add onion powder and garlic powder just like in onion and garlic potato chips. Lets give it some tang with some apple cider vinegar.

Do you like sweet and sour soup? Well we need some sweetness in their out choices could sugar or molasses or honey.

If you have diabetes we can add 2 packs of splenda to the completed sauce If you are ready my friend here we go to make the diabetic barbecue sauce recipe.
